1988 B2200 Speedometer cable breakage
I am the original owner of a 1988 mazda B2200 pickup truck with manual transmission. Several months ago the speedometer cable broke. I took it to a mechanic who replace the cable 10 times, including the meter cluster and cable sheath. Each cable broke after driving the truck approximately 2 miles. He finaaly gave up and returned the truck to me. He said that he did not know what was wrong and that he could not fix it. Although I am not a mechanic by any means I felt that I could try it myself. So, after two broken cable replacements, I gave up. Each cable turned smoothly and was lightly lubricated. I did not notice any binding or kinks. The cables only break at the meter/cluster end where the solid end piece meets the flexible cable. It never broke at the transmission end. This is the first time in approx. 18 years that the odometer cable has failed. I sure could use some help. If anyone have any ideas for fixing this difficult problem, your response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
