Mazda BT 50 & Pickup Trucks While Mazda may not be known for their trucks, they have always produced quality reliable trucks for both hauling cargo, or simply crusing. BT 50

Default 1990 b2600i

Sad day for me /:
today I went and looked at a 90’ b2600i. 256k miles. Which kinda scared me buht after test driving it and looking at the truck it seemed like a solid deal for $1,300. Looked as if if just needed some love.
On my way home the truck stalled. Before stalling it had a rough idle & then as soon as I gave it gas it died. Tried to restart the truck buht it would start. It cranked buht didn’t wanna turn all the way over. After a few times the battery died and I needed a jump.
I got the truck towed back home where I began to inspect the problem. The guy mentioned the the gas cap was incorrect so I went and bought a new one that fit the truck. The battery was also bought 6 years ago so I bought a new one. In the past with my Miata I had a clog Cat and it had a similar problem. So I started with that. I detached the cat gave the guy a try and it fired right up. I was stoked ! I went and did the oil change and all.
I started to flush the radiator, I was letting the truck warm up and I was doing the flush. I say it was in about 15/20 min. Before the trucks idle got very rough and stalled out. I went from stoked to bummed real quick.
Has anyone ran into any similar problems? Or anyone know where I can start? I’m looking into the coolant temp sender now.

It's been a few days since your last post, but if you haven't already, check for vacuum leaks, check the spark plugs (might as well replace while out), spark plug wires, coil, distro-cap, make sure to bleed the cooling system, and if all else fails, look into the ECU. This gen of B series are known for issues with the ECU. There is a capacitor inside that is part of the fuel injection circuit. It WILL slowly leak overtime and damages certain sections of the PCB.

Hope this helps, god bless!

So I went ahead and checked for vacuum leaks. Found none. I moved onto the spark plugs. I’m noticing them damped in fuel it smells like. What would cause this ? & would this be the issue I ran into ?

Its either lost spark, or not enough spark.

I went and changed out cap and rotor today as well with plugs and wires. I’m leaning towards the distributor ? Since the issues start once the car is warmed up.
After changing the way plugs wires cap & rotor. I’m still having the same issue. Car was on for about 7 min max before it started to act up again. Once I press throttle it loses power and idle drops. I pulled out my spark plugs. And #4 is totally burnt. Only being ran for 7 min about. #3 not so bad. #2 looks like 4. & #1 is looking good. Also I’m smelling lots of fumes while car is idling.
Could this be head gasket ?

You need to actually test the spark coming out of each spark plug wire when cranking.
