1998 air con recharge
Hello, new guy here and have a question. I have a 1998 b2500. I have what maybe a peculiar problem. I have problems with the ac. When the selector switch was set at regular air conditioning the air would blow out hot, as if the heat was on. When selector was on max ac. the air would blow out relatively cold. Now it blows out luke warm. Any suggestions on where to start? I am thinking a vacuum problem.

curious...I have a 98 B2500,,160k miles on her,,still running great...although my AC compressor went on me ,,,the compressor would kick on and off, signaling low 134A, i took it to a Ford dealer and they misdiagonsed the problem. Either way the gas is leaking from my compressor....I wanted to list this as FYI..ed

When the selector is in regular a/c it allows fresh air, and max a/c is in recirc mode. The air is always warmer in regular mode due to the fresh air being drawn in that is hot, even when everything is fully functioning. The recirc mode is self explanatory.
It sounds like you have a slow freon leak. Ford products are notorious for their spring lock hose fittings to leak after a few years on the a/c hoses. It would be best to have it leak tested.
*I would not recommend this, but* What I have done for my own vehicles and everyone with this same problem is to top of the freon charge and don't worry about it. Most time it lasts about 2 summers. Since a can of R 134a is about $7.

thnaks bkey.
I was low on freon, that got the compressor working again. There is definately something wrong in regular a/c mode. The air blows out hot, as if in the heat mode. It operated correctly when I first bought the truck. The air came out cool. But at least I have a/c now, no matter what mode it is in. Thanks again
