87 B2000 Just won't go
I am sure someone has successfully dealt with a problem like this before.
My 87 B2000 which has been running like a top for the last 3 years after I rebuilt the engine has stopped going. Three days ago it started to bog down at the top end of
first gear. As I drove it more it started to bog down at the top of all the gears making driving a challenge. Two days ago it got to the point that it bogged in the lower
gears and wouldn't go over 45 mph in 4th or 5th and when I hit the freeway it changed it's mind and wouldn't go over about 30. Goosing it got me off the
freeway and home. Well this morning it would not go over 2 miles an hour.
I checked the carb linkage and found that the choke linkage was bound up and the was choke stuck open and not allowing other levers to function. I cleaned it up and
siliconed it and now everything seems to work as it should. Tried it again. Still 2 mph. Replaced the fuel filter and checked and made sure that the timing was advancing
when I increased the rpm's which it was. I could see the fuel flow increasing through the top of the filter when I rev the engine but haven't checked the fuel pressure yet.
I tried again, still not over 2 mph. So I took off the top of the air filter and tried a lap around the block and she started running a bit better. Not pretty and doing a bit of whining and
was slow, but I could get it up to about 15mph and probably higher if I would have pressed it. It idles consistently well but does die out when I try to get it to drive with the air
filter cover on lately. It starts right up after it dies though. There are no air obstructions in the feeder tube or front of the air filter housing prior to the air filter. Prior to this I haven't
done any maintenance or changed anything so it seems to be a failure of some sort.
I would appreciate any/all help or suggestions that you have as far as the next few steps to get my old B2000 running back on the road.
Thank You

Hmm - wonder if the fuel sock inside the fuel tank is clogged.
See http://www.mazdatrucking.com/forum/s...er-Replacement however some of the photo links are now dead, thanks to Photobucket, which I no longer use.

Thank you for your reply.
I dropped the tank a few years ago when I replaced the sender unit and cleaned the sock out then. But it has been several years and the truck did sit for awhile
so I will check the fuel pressure before I do that again. When i had the engine idling and gave it more gas it did start to shake a bit after a certain rpm like it was
straining which would probably had been my bog had I had a load on it.
I will check my manual and get pressure and see what I get. I may post another question or two and appreciate any help you might be able to provide me to get
her running again.
Do you know if happen to know if the fuel socks are still available or will this turn into a search for another obsolete part?
Thank You
