Default B2200 alternator

well my mazdawg's alternator just gave out and I have been looking for a new one except theres only one problem, my uncle retrofited a different alternator to the 2.2l 2bl engine so obviously go to auto zone because i don't have the core.

ok now for the question. I know that the 89 ford probe and my 93' B2200 share the similar 2.2l, since every junk yard I went to didn't have one single mazda but they had alot of probes, I was wondering if these two alternators are interchangable? does the fact that my truck is carb and the probe is EFI have anything to do with wether or not it will fit. one junkyard said that the EFI's had three prongs while, the carbs had two. I really need to know if they are interchangable, I'm pretty sure they are but junyards don't offer refunds so I wanna make sure.

well for all who care I did find an alternater that fit and that has been working great, it was surprising but the alternater off of a 93 ford festiva is almost exactly the same, the only thing i had to do is get a longer adjustment screw.

just so you know, it doesnt have to be that exact alternator, the counter guy isnt going to know the difference from one greasy alternator to another, just as long as its a core

when i buy it at cost and then come back in 2 weeks later with a receipt and get the core what possible way do you have to check? or if i even take it back to the same napa/shucks/checkers/autozone??? not only that but so many cars use alternators from different manufactures, such as the alternator in my 89 mazda is specified for a 93 dodge stealth but is manufactured by mitsubishi?? now i agree if someone removes the old alternator cleans all the grime off of it until it is like new shiny, and brings it to switch right away, i can understand someone might notice a difference. not only does this common mans rule apply to alternators but starters as well. this post is in no way trying to be disrespectful to you sir, but in my many dealings with above said companys, almost every person that has entered information into the computer to look up a number, has had any mechanical knowledge of the actual interworkings of an automobile, but, there are exceptions
