b2200 starts idles rough stalls when giving gas
I have a 1991 B2200 Mazda Pickup. Did tune up about a year ago. Drove it for about 2 weeks and it would no longer start. It would turn over, but not start. So, I changed the coil. Still wouldn't start. Truck sat for about a year now, and I put it in the paper to sell as is. An old man came over to look at it and he told me that the coil wasn't hooked up right, so we hooked it up properly and it started. It does not idle right. If I give it any gas at all, it will stall. It seems to be running very rich, so I got a new o2 sensor. Still no change. I cannot give it any gas or it will stall. It also spits gas out of the carburetor when you give it gas.
I was going to sell it until it started up for me and I got hopeful that I might still be able to drive this thing. I only got to drive it for a month after purchasing it, and that's when it died. I'm hoping you can help me so I don't have to take a huge loss on this thing.
One more thing, since the day I bought this truck, it has always smoked when first starting. Thick white smoke. I don't know if this has anything to do with the problems I am having now or not. It also burns a lot of oil...about 1 quart per week.
Thanks for any assistance,
Kenya

try adjusting the timeing, get it running, loosen the dist. and turn it one way or the other untill it runs smooth. if this works, be sure to change the timeing belt. hope this helps.

toddluck,
I'm in Johnstown, NY. Mine smoked in the morning also for about 2 min, then ran perfectly. I can't understand what could be going on. It ran perfectly, then just quit. Then my hubby changed the coild, but put it on wrong...truck then sat for a year...then he put the coil on right, it started, but will not stay running...can't even give it gas or put it in gear or it will stall out. When it does sit and idle, it chugs and surges.
Oh, btw, my husband already tried adjusting the dist to check the timing and it made no difference in the way it ran.
Thanks again,
Kenya

try some carb cleaner if it sat for that long it might have gotten crudded up and also change the fuel filter and but some gasline dryer in it to evaporate any water that may have gotten in the system from sitting

Tried the carb cleaner...didn't work. We have not put any gas dryer in it yet though. A kid just came and looked at it the other day to possibly buy it and he said he thought that the fuel filter was not filling up with enough gas. He thought that possibly the fuel pump was not working properly (only working intermittently). Can fuel pumps only work intermittently? or do they just die completely?

when this truck died i think the plugs was filled from over fueling, which could have been caused by a failure with the fuel pressure regulator valve.this valve is located in the return fuel line around the throttle body, their should be a vacumn line on it,remove the vacumn line and see if there is gas visable.you may be pulling gas through the vacumn line into thethrottle plate if the diaphrame is bad in the regulator.
