B2600 towing?

RE: B2600 towing?
That is a tricky one to answer. I would not try it myself. It would possibly tow the weight, but the biggest problem is stopping! And you would most likely have a lack of power on the highway going up hills. I have this experience when trying to tow an 18 ft boat with a Chevy S10. It made it but I did not feel very safe.

ALWAYS check the owners manual for the towing capacity of your truck. If you have to, call the dealer and see if they can look it up for you.
My 87 B2000 has a hitch ball mounted on the rear step bumper, but I wouldn't ask it to tow more than a few hundred pounds. It's just not built for that.
I have seen a few B2600's towing trailers, but they didn't tow anything more substantial then a very short utility trailer. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a large load behind one.
I moved a small 8 foot aluminum boat with trailer, that weighed about 800 pounds with my friends B2600 a few years ago. The truck did fine, but didn't like hills with that load.
The brakes seemed fine, but had some fade on long hills.
In an emergency stop, I don't think the brakes would have done well.
I really wouldn't tow anything heavy than 1500 pounds with his truck or mine, it's just not built for towing. If you want to tow something heavier, get a full sized truck to do it.

Waverunners don't weigh too much and are probably well within the capabilties of our trucks. I have seen Honda Accords pulling waverunners and ATV's here in Long Beach, Wa, so a B series truck isn't to much of a stretch.
I recently hauled about 1000 LBS of sand in my 87 B2000 last week. Not to much struggle, but stopping was a very small issue.
No major problems other than I found a U-joint that has seen better days. Replacement will be soon, but requires a Driveline shop to change, as most of the 4X2 trucks between 1986 and 1993 have "staked in" joints that require special machinery to replace them.

RE: B2600 towing?
My B2600 is modded a little but I towed a 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass (minus engine and tranny) on an 18ft car trailer from Charleston, WV to Louisville, KY through the hills and all. I could run 60mph easily and on most hills, only twice did I run into hills to big to maintain at least 55mph, I had to downshift and ran 45mph just to keep rpm's down.
Stopping was a LITTLE tricky, but nothing I was overly worried about. The biggest thing to watch for IMHO was not to let the trailer overpower the truck because of size and mass.

I had a 91 B-2600 and I would tow a 21ft wooden cuddy cabin V8 boat with a two axle trailer. It was not easy and I had to watch what I did but I did tow it all over NH without a problem. The big thing is you really need to know how to use the stick.

Had no choice, had to move from where it was.
It towed but had to play the gears, watch braking, and totally don’t recommend doing this for more than a few flat miles.
