Anyone ever ditch the engine mechanical fan and go with electric? Assuming you did it correctly with a high quality fan and controller and also a beefed up alternator.
How much hp can you free up for the stock 2.2 engine? Enough to notice?

Most average humans can not feel 10hp increases on most all 4 wheel (not 4x4) gas engine vehicles. The (est. based on dyno testing many early carbureted 4 cylinder engines ) .50 -.75 hp loss due from patristic drag you likely would never notice or feel. Maybe a slight improvement in acceleration, maybe? I think some us know why the trade off balance from a direct or clutch cooling fan converting to an electrical fan.
But the improved cooling and a better controlled cooling system than OEM is always a plus.
You don't necessary need to go with top name brand electric fans or controllers for a project like this either.

Personally, I don't think you'd notice any increase in hp, any change would be wishful thinking/justification.
I'm in Arizona desert and stock fan, stock fan clutch, 2-row aluminum radiator, and 195F thermostat keeps my B2200 engine running cool. Yes, AC on 90% of the time, and Cab Plus.

Speaking of radiators, ours has seen better days and a new on is on the way. Actually two are on the way. The first one I found was Duralast A685. It’s aluminum core with plastic tanks or at least that’s what it appears in the picture.
After that I saw an all aluminum one and had to order it too. Although the supplier of the all aluminum one contacted me and claiming what I ordered is out of stock and that they were sending me a different brand. They said it too was all aluminum and had same warranty and they were not changing the price. I’m curious are what I will get.
We will be comparing the two and making a decision on which to keep and put in the truck. I hope the all aluminum one is good enough quality that it’s the choice.
I guess we have to wait and see.

Here’s another cooling system related question.
What is the sensor in the bottom radiator tank for? I also see the one in the thermostat housing which I think is for the temp gauge. But I don’t know what the one in the radiator is for.

I have a 2-row all-aluminum radiator in my own 1988 B2200, installed in 2011. Since mine is 5-speed, I didn't need to hook up anything to those two lower ports which are there for automatic transmission trucks. I did need to drill four mounting holes in the radiator FRAME for my 5-speed radiator shroud to attach (blue arrows); the radiator itself bolted right into the frame.
That's for a temperature sender for the factory PTC heater between intake manifold and carburetor; one doesn't need that with a Weber carburetor.

I should add that there are likely few/one real manufacturer of all-aluminum radiators for the few B2000 and B2200 trucks still on the road, just wouldn't make economic sense. So most likely from one or few factories and simply rebranded. And I would expect same for most of "our" parts.

Yes, OSC865 is the radiator they claim to be sending me. If you search the web you see the same thing offered from various vendors.
