Engine failure, need help. big project car
I have an 88 b2600 cab plus 4X4. nice ride, but old owner let the balancer chain fall off sprocket. potentionally caused the oil pump to fail. here is where i need to find out what to do.
The engine will not turn over by hand, and i have a few options. I do not own an engine lift nor do I want to replace engine unless it is seized.
Is there some kind of preventative mechanism that would activate like the bending of push rods that would go when the oil pump went out.
im going to use pressure, automatic fluid and brake fluid mixed into one cylinder to see if a piston is stuck without oil. which may cause damage to a piston ring, but i can live with that if i can get it home.
everything is in neutral and clutch is fine, i just need to get it to top dead center to fix balancer chain. but really need to turn engine over.
I hope there is a fail safe, and maybe some activated countermeasure so pistons wouldnt seize up.

Its not the pistons that are seized up it's all the main and possibly camshaft bearings, when they (the bearings) run without oil the tin/lead melt and eventually weld themselves to the crankshaft which is why you cant spin it, this engine is toasted and will need a whole complete bottom end at the very least, at worst you need a whole new engine since without oil the pistons can scuff up the cylinder bores enough to need a rebore.
