Default B2500 engine overheating, coolant boiling and blowing back

Hi Guys,
im new to the forum and have recently just bought my first B2500. Absolutely loving it until a couple of weeks ago.
driving to work my heating went cold and the engine temp rose and hit the limit, I pulled over and a large percentage of coolant had been forced out of the reservoir breather/ overflow bottle.
topped it up and managed to recover it with assistance from the AA.
I replaced the thermostat as that was my first thought, it seemed to help for a little bit and the temp fluctuated up and down for a few times with the heating going hot and cold, but eventually ended up doing exactly the same again, coolant everywhere and fully overheated.
So I started reading up on it and worked out that it could be many things. So to save time and the ball ache of it all decided to change everything.
i changed, thermostat again, waterpump, radiator and cap and both top and bottom radiator hoses. Bled the system as per the workshop manual and it has done exactly the same again. Engine gets up to temp heating gets hot then it goes cold and the temp starts to rise, once it has risen the heating then gets hot again. There is very little pressure in the bottom radiator hose which is cold and the radiator itself is cold on the bottom three quarters.
I tried running it with no thermostat and the same thing happened again, except this time there was no heat from the heater at all, the engine got hot and blew the coolant again, the bottom radiator hose was cool but slightly warmer than before and also had pressure in it.
i read somewhere that a chap had had a similar issue and had gone through several thermostats until he bought an OEM one, so I now have one on order and it should be here on Wednesday although I am not 100% that will fix it..
I’m absolutely stumped and would appreciate any help if possible.
many thanks
Tom

forgot to say it is a 2000 2.5 td RHD with no A/C fitted
