Ok so on my quest to get better milliage I have come up with some ideas after hearing that 2wheel drive trucks are getting 25-30 mpg. First is the electric fan, it must have some effect and Secondly locking hubs, now these must make a differance because its the only thing different from a 2 wheeler. Now is there such a thing, I just did the front pads and rotors and didnt notice if it was an option. Has anyone tryed these things Please let me know because I cant afford to drive my 4cylinder.

Well, there is more than just rotors and hubs different between the 2wd and the 4wd models. The 4wd trucks are quite a bit heavier compared to their 2wd cousins. Even having the hubs unlocked on a truck with hubs means you're pushing around a lot more mass with the beefed up IFS, extra driveshaft, and transfer case. I am sure the gears between the two are different as well. You'd get better gas mileage with 307 gears than with 355's for example. Tires also would play a part in the final calculation.

I find my 93 B2600 to be excellent on fuel, but I am coming from a 92 Cherokee that had a thirsty inline 6 cyl engine so my opinion is a bit skewed.

 

What kind of milliage are you getting and is 4x4 as well.

 

Right now my 93 B2600 4x4 is getting around 25-27 mpg at 60 mph. If I run her up around 65-70 mph, that drops off drastically. My 92 Cherokee got around 18-21 depending on speed so I am happy with 25-27 mpg. She needs a tune up so my mileage might go up a wee bit afterwards.

 

I wonder if there is any big difference between the 92 and the 93. My 92 is lucky to see anything over 15mpg. It's tuned up and checked out. I've got a no load monitor on the O2 sensor so I know that the electronics are working rite. Do you know if you got anything special on your's.

 

Wow, you're right that is crappy gas mileage. I don't think there is anything special about my 93. It is fuel injected, but I assume your's is as well. It almost sounds like your hubs are permanently locked in and you are pushing all 4 wheels around in 2wd. Perhaps your gearing is drastically different or maybe your odometer is screwy

15 mpg? I got that in my 1978 3/4 ton Chevy truck.

 

People really need to specify exactly what model of truck they have. The fuel injected trucks made in 93 and earlier got pretty good gas mileage, some members on my forum after drastic tune up and modification have gotten up to 33 mpg. If it is carbed with the OEM carb the best you'll probably get is about 20 and most of them by this time are getting about 17. A weber on a well tuned and strong engine can push that up to about 25 mpg. Only about 17% of the B2200s ever made in the US where FI and I think all of them where made between 91-93. B2600s where all FI after they ditched the Mitsu engine.

 

Well my rig is a 93 b2600i fi 4x4, and its pretty hard on gas thats why im trying to figure out if there is some thingwrong because its killing me on fuel. Im sure it will get better with a working clutch fan but would you believe I cannot find one anywhere. The closest thing Ive foung is off a pathfinder and im not sure it will fit so I dont want wast money on it.

 

I have a '91 B2600i 4x4 with 32" tires and I get between 17-18.5 mpg. I have upgraded my exhaust, but have not made any other changes yet. I would also like to improve the mileage, but am not terribly unhappy with what I get for being a lifted 4x4 running 32's.

 

I have a 91' B2600i I just acquired, its a 4x4, plus cab, 5 speed. I just put a new head/gasket, wires, plugs, cap/rotor, air filter, changed all fluids (motor oil, coolant, tranny, diff, transfer case) and ran a tank of gas through it with fuel injector cleaner. It has 31x10.50r15 AT tires on it. I am only getting 14mpg on this thing, I tried different RPM's seems to be getting the best gas mileage when I am cruising around 2,700rpm. What is wrong with this thing? I talked to the previous owner and he said that is the same gas mileage that he was getting. It wont pass smog, dont know if that makes a difference. What could it be?
