Default stalls and dies

Hello, I own a 1987 b2200 se-5, with a 1 barrell carb and it is a 2.2l
this is a wonderful truck but it does have this problem with stalling and dieing at stop signs
when i slowly accellerate. i have the haynes mag for it and it lists several possibilities.

1. idle speed incorrect.
2.fuel filter clogged and or water and impurities in the fuel system
3.choke not operating properly
4.damaged or wet distributor cap and wires.
5. emissions system components faulty
6. faulty gapped spark plugs.
7.vacuum leak at the carburetor inake manifold or vacuum hoses.
8. valve clearances incorrect.

i have ruled out the idle speed. it fires right up first try, runs at a nice idle.
doesnt bog down, ruled out 2 fuel filter isnt clogged. it could be a choke problem,
defintaly not 4, the engine is bone dry. good spark plugs, and valve clearances.
it could also be the vacuum leak or a leak in the intake manifold or vacuum hoses.
it runs strong, except coming to a complete stop and pushing the gas down 1/4 / half way.
i have to release off the brakes coast a few feet and than slowly and i mean SLOWLY accellerate.

any help or info with this is welcome!

How about a weak or non-existant fuel spray from the accelerator pump in the carburetor?

I for sure agree with the accelerator pump. It most likely has a ruptured diaphragm.

i will check those out. but if that was the case would it bog down in reverse too?
because i can gun it in reverse no bogging down or struggling. i belive
it isnt a case of the engine doesnt run when cold. i have the truck running doing rutine maintenace
on it and it fired right up. had it going for about 10 -15 minutes cleaning the carb and the air filter
with some PB. after that i took her for a spin and she drove fine in reverse, but sometimes
when i took a corner it would bog down again and totally die. it would still fire right up as soon
as you turn it over too, i would put it in gear and have to let off the brake coast a tad bit than LIGHTLY
accellerate. got home safely from the test drive.

See this post that has the vacuum diagrams. Look at the one in four seperate pics further down. It is for a b2200 as there was no b2000 in my listing for that year. It was the closest one he was asking for.

Could still be the cause but not as likely since it seems fine in reverse. Would also bog/hesitate when free revving the engine.
Had another thought though when you mentioned the stall when going around a corner. Possible that there might be some water in the fuel? In particular the bottom of the float bowl in the carburetor. Water does not like to go thru the carb jets like fuel does as it is a bit heavier. Maybe trying a couple bottles of fuel system drier in the tank just the see if that helps.

are you sure you arent having trouble using a clutch? just a thought lol but on a serious note mine did that check for vacume leaks the carb bolts do like to back out if they arent lock tighted or siliconed on

okay i took a trip down to the local checker auto to see a friend that works there,
and also to see what his diagnosis is. and he said it was the gas filter. so i got one
of those replaced the old one. (it had yellow brow gas) it runs a lot smoother but still
bogs down. im going to be looking at the fuel spray accelerator pump tomorrow.
and now it is bogging down in reverse, i do have a feeling that when i come to a stop and
accelerate that i kinda have to prime it (i.e. pump the gas quickly) and than it will pick right up. hmmm
tonight im thinking about his problem and checking the haynes manual

Check for proper float level in the carb. If it runs ok at idle, but bogs on acceleration, may be your float is out of adjustment. I would also as suggested above checl accelerator pump. BJ

i used to have problems with my idol, rpm needle went all the way down as if the engine were off but for some reason didnt stall. i replaced my fuel filter and it fixed it! my old one was really clogged...also check coolant lever and all the hoses, there may be a leak.
