transmission safety switch location?

transmission safety switch location?
Can anyone tell me the location of the safety switch that keeps you from starting if the transmission is not in neutral is at? I think it is going bad and I want to go ahead and replace it. Can you bypass this for the time being until a person locates another? Is the switch inside in the truck beneath the console or will I have to remove it from underneath the truck?

RE: transmission safety switch location?
This depends if the truck is an automatic or a manual. If it is an automatic the switch is located around the shifter, there should be a coupling located under the console that connects to the tranny, you can unhook this but I'm not totally for sure if it will start, if it is a manual tranny then all you have is a clutch switch and it is located around the clutch pedal and is coupled to a bundle of wire in the foot area of the vehicle as stated before I don't know if you can unplug this and the truck run or not but you can always do a test on the circuit to see if the switch is bad.
