Default USB and 12V Power always on :(

The 2 USB ports and the 12V ("cigarette lighter") socket in the Maxda CX-30 are always powered. This means you cannot leave anything plugged into them all the time as it will continue to draw from the car battery even while the ignition is off.

While I'm in the process now of wiring something and tapping off an ignition switched fuse, I wanted to ask if anyone found a way to change that? Manual does not offer any advice, but I know in some cars it can be as simple as changing a dip switch or jumper setting to have ports be ignition switched instead of always on

Thumbs up

I cannot help you with an easy method, but I did rig up a Qi Charge for her cell phone that is only powered when the car is running. Very easy to tap into Ignition on power in the driver side a-pillar. Reference the red wire in these instructions for the auto dimming mirror that I installed at the sime time: I just used a posi-tap for the red wire and black wire.

What’s crazy is I got a fuse tap and was going to wire off an ignition switched circuit from fuse box ... they all seem to be powered ! I was using multimeter

I just got my CX-30 and faced the same issue when I installed the dashcam initially. However, I realize the system will cut the power of 2 USB ports 6 minutes after the engine stops. The only outlet remains powered is the 12v socket. It's a smart car with lots of unusual twists. Mazda's engineers think a step further than their customers. FYI, any door or trunk opening will wake the car up and make the USB port powered again.

This might help some UK users of their CX-30. We just picked up our brand new CX-30 last Friday and encountered the same issues when trying to install a dashcam. As Juicy mentions above the USB ports cut power after 6mins (I went and sat in the car to verify this) so I was going to go down this route however I also tested the 12v socket and in our model this turns off with the ignition (our model is the GT Sport Tech, not sure if it is unique to that variant) so I decided to use that option. The 12v cable I got with the dashcam (nextbase 522gw) was 4m long so plenty to hide under the trims, round the back of the glove box, up the side pillar and along the ceiling trim to the camera. Very pleased with the outcome as the day before I had spent about 20mins testing all the internal fuses to see if any were switched before coming on here and finding out they weren't.
