DPFs have only so many "regeneration" cycles before they need replacement and that is NOT cheap, replacement DPFs for the 2.0 TDI Mazdas run about $600-$750.

since the compression in the CX-5 diesel is only 14:1, it also uses variable valve lift to keep the exhaust valves open to let hot exhaust from another cylinder INTO one that will fire soon, this preheats the cylinder about to fire to eliminate cold start issues,
Good explanation of DPF. Expensive, I'd say.
I thought diesels are more like 20:1 compression. I have a feeling the lower compression is for higher revving?
Normally large diesels don't rev high but have huge torque on low end.

FOUND THIS COOL Video:
don't know how true it is. Diesel revving 5,500 rpm.
The diesel revs much lower than the gasoline, and cruising at 120km/h on the highway is at around 1900rpm (lower than Skyactiv-G). This allows very rapid overtaking. I've seen 80-120 timings as being between 30-40% faster than the Skyactiv-G.

Diesels provide high power at low speeds common in U.S. stop-go traffic. They get 20% to 40% better mileage, but diesel fuel is priced higher than gasoline, and not all stations sell it.

The 2.0d revs to 5500 in the CX-5, and it is MORE than happy to go there also. With 14:1 compression the amount of NOx that is produced is much lower, NOx needs high pressures and temperatures, take one away and you have less.

Default New cx 5

New to the forum, and have 900 miles on the new cx 5 and so far so good.A short trip load with a lot of weight and 2 of us averaged 30.7 from Pa. to WV. and back. The head rest are a pain, removed the rear ones. With the seats down it has enough room for stuff, and it drives good, brakes are great.
The only problem is the dealer and service or lack of service, moved to an other dealer for service.......... jim

Welcome, and any feedback on CX-5 after a few hundred more miles?
