i have a 2017 cx-5, has anyone here done a transmission cooler install? I have a hayden 679 i'm not going to use , Not familiar with mazda so i'll like to install this cooler if it fits. I'm unsure where to find the outgoing line from the radiator.

Thanks

My understanding is that there are no external trans cooler lines on these transmissions. Coolant from the radiator, not transmissions fluid, circulates from the radiator to the transmission and this provides cooling.

YMMV

Factory fitted ( standard) Transmission Cooler from a 2015 RHD Japanese built Mazda CX-5.

The cooler bolts directly to the transmission & uses engine coolant to cool the ATF.

I have a 2016 2.5l and we will be towing a slightly larger pop-up camper (1350lbs) from Oregon to Alaska (about 2600 miles). We will be doing no more than 300 miles/day and I will most definitely be getting a trans cooler but just wanted to see if anyone out there is towing larger loads ~1500lbs.

In response to you towing towards the upper end of the rating for the CX-5, I briefly towed about 1,500 lbs for maybe about 150 miles or so. But, it was up and down some pretty substantial hills (at least for PA). I have to say, I was really impressed with the way it towed. Although these cars, unfortunately, lack a temperature gauge, I didn't see any abnormalities with the way the car ran. It kept plugging along as it always does, and I didn't even notice the fan running more than usual. It was the middle of summer as well, but I wasn't running the A/C. I haven't added any aftermarket gauges or access ports to monitor temperatures, although I certainly would love to know what everything is doing...that's for another thread, though.

^ this is what I was told by an old mazda service guy - mazda makes these to be ready to tow by UK and EU standards which are much higher weight ratings than the US ratings from what I understand ( at least 1.5 times higher i think? ). I was worried about towing near max and he told me to not even worry about it - they're built to be able to tow 3k ish in the EU or something like that. You will be nowhere near pushing that tranny that hard at the US limits. Do keep in mind that the higher tow ratings in the EU are mostly because they have a top speed allowed of 60mph on vehicles towing campers - so that is a big part of their math that allows smaller vehicles to tow larger weight than in the US.

Also - don't go over US tow capacity - obviously the car can do it since there's cars that have been doing it for ages in the UK and EU - but you will be held liable in accidents because of being overweight - your pocketbook will not be happy.

Here's a further explanation of the part thats already on people's CX-5 from factory:
