2018 cx-5 Blown Head Cylinder and Head Gasket

Mazda cracked Gasket
Hello,
I'm posting to see if there is anyone else out there that has had the head cylinder and head gasket go in their cx-5. I have an 18 month old cx-5 that now has this issue after 40,000 Kilometers /25,000 Miles. No check engine or any other light illuminated on the console prior to this happening. I had just gotten an oil change 2 days previous and the first sign something was wrong was a strong burning smell coming from the engine. When I arrived home I saw that oil had leaked in my garage, on my driveway and left a trail down my street. Smoke also came from under the hood.
The Mazda dealership I bought and had the car serviced at tells me that Mazda is aware of some vehicles having an issues with defective head cylinders and that some VIN numbers are effected.
I am now faced with owning a vehicle that is 1.5 years old and will have a rebuilt engine being put together in a dealerships service department. Has any other cx-5 owner had this issue? I have the 2.5L non-turbo.

My 2018 Mazda CX-5 Has a cracked head gasket too.. Serviced oil changes rotated tires etc. There are obvious issues with these SUV’s but who’s coming forward and repairing the issues from Mazda.. This must be investigated and reported ..

Unfortunately I know the exact feeling. My 2019 cx5 turbo started leaking coolant . Next day brought i it in to service, 3 days later service manager says we need to replace cylinder head. At 30,000 miles this is totally unacceptable ! I'm also not comfortable with a rebuilt engine from a dealership. What really sucks is I sent a 20k payoff check a wk earlier to buy the lease out ! Still waiting on mine & when I get it back its gone!

Who can answer that question accurately? It depends on so many things. There are many 2.5 NA and 2.5T motors around with lots of miles on them and running well. It isn't every engine having issues. All makers have occasional issues and the forum is going to concentrate them as people who have issues look for others to ask questions and commiserate. How many on this forum have had no issues? Many. My 21 2.5T has no issues as of yet at 11k miles. My 19 2.5 NA had no issues in 20k.

And you can not compare engines untouched having to do with heads or short block service repairs to anyone's untouched factory engine.

I have a 2019 GT N/A cx5 with 52000 miles on it. No issues and doesn't use oil between changes. Use Amsoil and dealer lets me bring my oil to use and we change it every 7500 milers per the owners manual.
Took it on a 800 mile round trip this past spring and ran great. got almost 35 mpg pure highway using the cruise control. Was impressed with the car overall. Hope the engine never has this problem but we have an extended warranty on it but so far so good. knock on wood. now if I can only find info on transmission fluid change recommendations.

Amzoil is an excellent oil to use but expensive.

You should have already done a transmission pan oil and filter service. So do this as soon as you can and start a routine of that service at least your every other engine oil change. You extend service plan has a lot of limitation and items not covered as you may think it does?

Are you suggesting the CX-5 transmission needs a fluid change every 10-15k miles (assuming a 5k-7500k oil change interval which is what Mazda recommends)? If so this is the first time I have heard of such a short interval. I had a 2016 Acura RDX which had a revised 30k recommended interval after issues cropped up in the 6-sp units.
Actually I know that on other forums I have posted this information read by even some members on this forum!
Most that have had their transmission oil analyzed All will agree that the first oil pan filter service be done at 25-50k max miles. The transmission like an engine is new. Therefore, they like an engine will have a break in period. It is far better to remove the partials and chemicals after the transmission has been broken in than to let them remain in the transmission.
Easy math 7500 + 7500 = 15000 So what I suggested or recommend was at least a pan oil change (5quarts) every 15,000 miles. It would naturally be better to drop the pan but at least the oil change will prevent issues and prolong the transmission service life beyond the warranty period. An doing the service will NOT harm or void the transmission warranty!
If need be I can re-post my transmission last 2 oilanalysis and also grab a few other analyses from other forums to post in support of my suggested transmission service.
This is what my first Transmission oil filter and pan fluid found caught by the transmission pan magnet. This is common and found likely in every MAZDA Skyactiv engine automatic transmission.

Callisto what's your take on transmission flushing?
Only had it done on one vehicle I've owned, a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country, it worked great on that vehicle.
The rest of the vehicle was a piece of crap and thus my only foray into Jeep.
