2018 cx-5 Blown Head Cylinder and Head Gasket
#141
My personal and professional experience owning and managing a few service shops many of my customers having to send them to get warranty work done;
Warranty parts are replaced as a complete unit like head or engine or only the damaged or failed parts. This is detailed in the warranty writer for the service department not normally given to a customer. However, this question is one that you could ask the dealership service and or parts department when they do the work. Because it is warranty you are also not likely to see any documentation except that the warranty service was completed.

If the damage is caught early they fit a complete cylinder head, fully assembled. I've only seen 3 cylinder heads replaced in my shop. We have had one that cooked the engine and required a complete engine.
The 2.5T is less utilized in Australian models, CX-5, CX-9 & Mazda6. No Mazda3, no CX-30 option.

The RickyBobby guy was banned because a mod said that he was the same user as a JackRabiit guy, and that he's lying about having cracked head. Just a heads up... sucks to think that people are making stories up and lying to make this problem seem worse....

Hey I'm a member from another Mazda enthusiast forum. Joined up to warn you and the mods of a guy who might be making new accounts to lie about engine problems. Posts by user Disappointed over here are the same as the posts by user RickyBobby here.. https://mazdas247.com/forum/t/cracke...2#post-6773727

Its unfortunate with many subjects that a person will join several forums asking and telling the same problems using a different username. While I understand a person wants to solve a problem asap they do not realize that it adds to the numbers people that will start to think and believe it to be a global problem with something? In this thread and the problems based on the numbers manufactured are really so low it is not a BIG problem (yet) and Mazda is doing their part and best way withing the warranty to help owners having the problem.
Again thank you for posting.
I do recognized jackrabbit member from other forums.

2018 CX5 with 65k miles with cracked head
This issue happened to us last month just past 60k mikes, and Mazda is refusing to cover under warranty. We have purchased 4 new Mazdas over the last 10 years and have been the reason why others have purchased Mazdas. Mazda claims that the reason that warranty coverage was denied was that we had not shown loyalty to the dealership by having our CX5 serviced there. We live far away from a Mazda dealership and have our car regularly serviced at a nearby shop. After learning (after the fact) that this was the reason they denied warranty coverage, we provided all service records. We also reiterated that the ultimate sign of dealer loyalty was demonstrated by our buying another Mazda 6 months ago!! We're pushing for an appeal but Mazda has been unresponsive. Mazda of Roswell has been supportive in trying to get coverage, but we need a dealership owner to get involved. We love Mazda cars, but their unwillingness to acknowledge their fault in an issue that is clearly tied to manufacturing defects is unacceptable. We've been fighting this for a month now. We're considering legal action to try to force Mazdas hand. This will likely be our last Mazda if not favorably resolved given their demonstrated lack of care for a long time loyal customer. I worked in the corporate warranty group of one of the biggest computer companies in the world and know how the game is played. Any suggestions on getting coverage would be appreciated. I appreciate all the info provided on this topic by this forum and its members. Question: is it smarter to sell the CX5 rather that risk this happening again?

Welcome to the forum
First I hope you understand forums like these are not the place to really find how to procedure with Warranty issue like yours. But its a great place to express frustration's.
It is hard to give legal advice unless we have a member that is an attorney. Taking legal action is not small claims so you will need to invest about 5,000 to start of for a civil suit. I can't see any attorney doing this pro-bona? And a class action would takes years. I did not read that you went directly at anytime to Corp Mazda with your complaint. Dealerships are still independently privately owned business and they can choose NOT to do any service even from Mazda. Perhaps the best thing is to attempt you deal directly with Corp Mazda ?
Also threatening an automaker with never buying from them again is also not something IMHO would do? While auto manufactures care about you as a customer these warranty issues for the most part airing them on forums hold little value for others that may or may not decide to buy a MAZDA. Some of us and I think most don't care! And if you don't ever buy from Mazda again its not going to hurt them in any way. Auto manufactures EVERY year get unhappy customers in the thousands but they still thrive and go on. I would guess the percentage of happy or those that do not have a issue are the majority and the highest percentage than those that have minor a or greater warranty related concerns. Positive diplomacy and perseverance tends to be a better course of action in most cases
Good luck with your Mazda concern

It's impossible to understand exactly what you're saying in those sentences above. First off, it seems that a situation like this would always cause the dealership owner to become involved, so are you saying that the owner of Roswell has chosen to not get involved? Also, by saying "Mazda has been unresponsive", does that mean Mazda Corporate (MNAO) is in the loop on this, and that you have a case open with them?

I am not taking sides but you joined and your first post IMHO is complaining, and telling the "story" of service you feel is not being done for you and that the bad guys are MAZDA Corp? If as you say there is a "CASE" open then why not wiat until the end before assuming the worst. You have said a dealership is still working to get something resolved for you with Mazda Corp?
