Default 2019 CX-5 2WD bad fuel economy

Our new 2019 CX-5 2WD getting average of 19.5 mpg around town driving after 3 fill ups.
Very disappointing.
Compared to our 2016 CX-5 2WD averaged 23 mpg around town driving.......same driver, same driving routes.......
Granted......the 19' model EPA is 25 mpg.........vs the 16' was 26' but our actual measured differential is 15 % lower !!

Advised dealer and made service appt for this issue, plus drip type tan colored stain coming from right rear door handle that we've wiped off and keeps coming back.

Being new it takes a little time/miles to break in the motor.

On other hand I purchased a used 2017 GT AWD and driving around town I am averaging 21 MPG.

Don;'t think we will ever see EPA numbers.

Good luck with dealer.

We get about 27 mpg with mixed driving on our 2018 CX-5 AWD and are pretty satisfied with the consumption. I assume it will get better for you once the car breaks in.

Thanks for the reply. That mpg would really make me happy.

My CX now has 9800 miles so break in period should be over.

We live in Ft Lauderdale FL and the traffic is nuts. When you stop at a light you can almost hear a complete song on the radio. It certainly has impact on mpg.

I do have a heavy foot!

Thanks for your post and I will keep it as a bench mark.

Regards,
Jim

I have a 2019 grand touring reserve with 2500 miles.
With sport mode off, I'm getting 25 mpg. With the AC on, about 23.

Think about it this way, when you're stopped, you're still consuming gasoline but you're not moving. Consider this, with enough idling in heavy traffic, a Toyota Corolla in perfect condition will get worse fuel economy than an 840 HP Dodge Challenger SRT Demon tooling along at 65.

I have the 2018 CX5 GT AWD with 4,900 km. I am getting 8.5 litres per 100 km (27.6 miles/US gallon). This is a mix of city (30%) and highway driving (70%).

I have a 2019 Grand Touring 2WD and do not drive aggressively. I've got almost 3000 miles on it and averaging 21.9 mpg. I'm very disappointed with this. Other than that love the vehicle.

You may want to see your dealer. I have a 2019 GTR (AWD) and I'm averaging 23-25. Even better without the AC on.

Are you driving in "sport " mode?
