2019 Rear Liftgate Not Closing
Hey guys, brand new here. My wife has a 2019 CX5 Grand Touring and the past few weeks, the rear lift gate has been acting weird but progressively getting worse. It started with stopping in the middle of it opening or not closing all the way and we have been having to physically open or close it. Then yesterday, my wife actually noticed that there's a wider gap (in the close position) on the driver side than the passenger side. Almost as if it has become misaligned somehow. Then today I had to manually close it and the alarm was going off in the car that the lift gate was open. I stopped, pulled over, closed it manually again and the alarm still was going off.
Has anyone had an issue like this, its pretty frustrating and im not sure if its something i can fix myself. i consider myself somewhat handy and with the car being out of warranty (i believe), im not looking forward to taking this in somewhere.
also, if i do have to take it in, is this something you guys recommend the dealer to fix?

hey there, battery is still original. Bought the car brand new. How can I check if it’s the battery? Haven’t had any issues on start up at all.

You can go to a place like Autozone or Advance Auto and they can test your battery for free.

i have heard the control unit for the lift gate was a known issue that mazda recalled for certain ones but not mine. Not sure how to diagnose if that’s the issue either.
ill get the battery checked on Thursday and then get back to you guys.

update, i replaced the battery as Autozone tested it and said it was at 54%. still the same issue with the lift gate though. taking the battery back and just going to buy the driver side lift gate i guess.
driver side has a wider gap when closed so im assuming that side isn't functioning properly and its not pulling in enough and thats why im seeing a wider gap on that side? we shall see

There is a TSB on the lift gate module.
I never had an issue but had mine replaced free on my 2020.

Did you read the TSB posted above?
From the info: "Some customers may find that the liftgate does not close when pressing the power liftgate (PLG) rear
switch (A) located on the interior liftgate trim. This may be caused by PLG switch corrosion."
Could be your issue. Also, if you are still running the original battery, and they told you it was at 54% when tested I would definitely NOT take the battery back. You are well beyond the point of replacement at 5yrs.
