Gosch who dragged this thread up again???
Currently NO reputable agency has been able to determine the exact cause of sunroofs seemingly to spontaneously break for no reason. breaking. The term exploding is only a description not a fact.
exploding:
verb
I would like to see actual facts proving that their were defects in a specific year or year range of the same models and who the reporting agency was.
I am not saying it does not exist but everything thus far is not pointed to a mass production of poorly manufactured sunroofs.
The agencies NTSB as well The NHTSA both have reports on file about the subject
Many courts across the US (mostly small claims not civil) have cases filed as well. And if you look into the results very few resulted in favor of the consumer and there was no proof of defect only a settlement offered. But again, there are so many I could not find one that support the theory of defective universal manufacture sunroof breaking.
To many theorist on this thread and still no real empirical data and information!!!!!

No link to NTSB reports since there aren't any. You don't even understand how this stuff works. Only reports are with the governing body, NHTSA.

I did say “on the subject of sunroofs ! lol
Sunroof have long been a reported concern and complaints dating back to the 70s . With the great www everything is more easy finding complaints and armchair DIY theorizing on things concluding often that it must be a defect. Yet these same people rarely have any engineering skills, training in engineering education or experience in engineering. Lol
my guess based on often talking to auto glass shops that most don’t even know that there are different visual qualities of auto glass specifically windshields .
So now we all these wanna-theorists about sunroof breakage. lol
If I were you maybe seek doctor advise about your farting, you may have IBS or lactose intolerance u are unaware of .. ROLMAO

Well this thread just popped up again in my email as being updated. Just so that you will all have another data point for future discussions, here's what happened:
I called the dealer and was told I'd need to call Corporate and get a case number, so I did, and then took it into the dealer.
They said they'd have to decide if it was covered by warranty or not and that might take 2-3 days.
After 3 days I called and asked what was happening and was told it was still in process.
After 5 days they called me, told me that it was fixed, and to come pick it up.
Needless to say, I feel that Mazda treated me very well.
FWIW, I do have glass insurance coverage and could have used that, but they didn't even ask.
