I came here today to post about the same issue. We had our 2021 CX5 in for a 20,000 mile service on Monday, and Wednesday night the check engine light came on! I pulled the P0126 code and learned it was the fairly common coolant control valve issue. I even found the TSB online. I believe they fixed the problem for the 2022 model year. We took the car in today (CEL came on last night) Our dealer took care of it in about 3 hours. We got a new 2024 CX5 as a loaner so we went out to lunch while we waited. The 2024 seemed identical to our 2021 model. It was warm and sunny today and the black interior of the loaner heated up and validated our choice of the off white leather interior which we love, and dark blue exterior. The loaner was quartz, kind of a boring gray.

But I was very pleased the dealer took care of it under warranty with no problem. If I was out of warranty and had to pay $1600 (or $900, we heard both prices quoted) for a known fault I would be quite upset!

Well our car just threw this gem as well It's a 2021 CX-5 with 18,000 miles.

Edit: Came to ask about warranty coverage but I see it's covered under the powertrain warranty. Yay!

Yup it'll be covered for you. Not sure if your car has hit 3 years from the first in-service date, but you may also still have something left in the 3 years/36k miles bumper to bumper warranty. If you got your car certified pre-owned like I did then you should get a little more time.

We bought new and in service date was in January so I'm past the 3 year mark and why I was concerned. But based on above it sounds like it counts as power train not bumper to bumper.

You're correct. It will fall into the powertrain warranty that is 5 years/60k miles.

Coolant is somewhat under the power train service. I am not trying to worry you but there is always a misunderstanding what some think and what is covered under a warranty.
It somewhat simple but that is where so many get it a bit incorrect, they assume things. If the full warranty explanation was detailed in all the parts, it would amount to about 30-50 pages long and what and what does not constitute covered under warranty.
You also can not go by one some else posted getting covered under warranty.
