I have fwd 6 speed manual. Now that we're off the winter gas formula I've been getting around 31 average with 60% city driving. On hwy trips If I keep it around 65 I'll average 34mpg. Driving 80 and I'll get 27mpg

I have 2014 CX5 Grand Touring Tech Package and my dash says avg mpg at 21.6. I drive mostly in the city. I always calculate the old fashioned way after each fill up and it's usually around 24.0 mpg.

Just picked up a 2014 GT AWD w Tech Package 4 days ago. Into the second tank of gas. Drove 300 miles in pretty bad highway traffic yesterday, and averaged 28.5 mpg. I'm a fairly laid-back driver but not afraid to hit the gas when necessary. Hoping it creeps up to 30 mpg, but feeling pretty happy about it.
Not sure why some folks would be getting less. Now if I could just get Pandora to connect in less than 5 tries...

I don't understand the big difference in the dashboard reading. I'm never above 22.0.
Good luck with Pandora. it's atrocious

Not sure what I did to make it work, but Pandora's fine for me too now. Thanks.

Update on gas mileage... car is 10 days old and I just passed 1000 miles.

Made 120 mile trip yesterday, mostly highway in moderate traffic, 75F outside (gorgeous).

I purposely drove as reasonably and gently as possible on the gas, staying at speed limit or a couple above (between 55 and 70). A/C running the whole time. The car clocked 30.5mpg. Still need to check it against actual at next fill up.

Any other similar experiences?

'14 CX5 FWD automatic. Just pulled into the gas station for the first time with my new Mazda. Assuming, my dealer gave me a full tank at delivery, I got approx 25mpg in all city driving. I have been driving very conservatively trying to stay within 2000rpm. Hopefully the mileage will improve over the next couple of tanks.

Got my 2014 CX-5 Sport 6 spd manual in March. After 4700 miles -- current odo -- my overall avg mpg is 33.61 .mpg in a combination of highway and urban driving in the greater Portland area. Have been using a scan gauge II to monitor progress and enable hypermiling. This is an amazing vehicle.

Default Whoops.....

Decided to change the air filter on the CX-5 to a K&N (with claims of 25% increase air volume). It seemed to rev more freely but gas mileage dropped dramatically with a lowest ever mpg of 29.55, 4 mpg below overall average.
So I removed the K&N and reinstalled stock filter. Results were dramatic with an increase of 5.2 mpg to 34.7.

Conclusion: The additional air flow with a K&N cartridge filter does not go hand-in-hand with MAF optimal air-fuel mixing despite noticeable improvements in engine responsiveness. Fuel economy can decrease by close to 15% so use a clean stock filter to sustain optimum fuel economy.
