Yes, given the topic is MPG and the CX-5 is best in class for a AWD compact SUV. The official EPA numbers are out for the most 2013 Escape 1.6L turbo (being the most fuel-efficient Escape to be offered) and 2012 CRV and the CX-5 beats them all with combined rating of 28 MPG versus 25 MPG for the Escape and CRV.

I've had mine for almost 2 months now. I do about 70% hwy driving usually around 70mph and my mileage on the computer has settled at 29.2 mpg. I track the mileage with an app on my phone and it shows an average of 28.8. The computer is off a bit but not much. It was off a full mpg on my previous vehicle. Overall very happy with the fuel economy.

What are local miles? (What kind of driving, city, highway, suburban, speeds)

I have a FWD -GT and the first tank was suburban driving probably averaging about 35-40 mph with about 15-20 miles of highway in the 170 miles. I drive a 06 Miata and a 04 - 3- 5door I just can't believe how well the CX5 handles the curves.

The first tank shows 25.8 mpg. That is good for a first tank and certainly easier on the wallet than my previous vehicle, Honda Ridgeline (300 tankfulls, average mpg per tank 17). I am anxious to see it get a bit better as I get accustomed to the different driving dynamics between the two vehicles.

What kind of driving conditions for first tank (city, highway,hills, flat, etc.)?

The only things considered hills out here are landfills. I hear tales of some hills up in the northern part of the state, but alas, i fear them to be tales of fancy.
Oooh, wait a second, I have to cross over a bay bridge twice a day and i guess you could consider it a hill.
For this first tank, mostly flat, a split of 70/30 (highway/city), and a large percentage of me playing nice with the throttle. Let's just say I enjoy getting up to the speed limit (or thereabouts) with alacrity. This is a tough 1,000 miles for someone born with a foot infused with a heavy metal.
We shall see what kind of Zoom-Zoom I can coax out of her once the break-in period is over. If this first week has been any indication, I think I will be using the manual shifting feature to override what the computer thinks is best for me.
She will get parked for almost a week as i jet away on business. But after that, I expect to be past the 1,000 mile marker by end of June easily. We are just past the 1 week mark and I am 14 miles from the 500 mile mark.
