To the OP: How are these Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tires in the spring, summer and fall - in dry and wet conditions without snow? Handling and braking? Especially compared to the OEM Yokohamas? I could go for a set of these Goodyears or Continental CrossContact LX25’s - which don’t have three-peak mountain certification.

I have only ever used winter tires here in Maine on my rear-wheel-drive vehicles.
And even then, I got stuck frequently, with or without using chains.
If you have FWD or AWD I don't see the need for winter tires or I should say verifiable proof that you do.
All seasons work just fine.
And like my old man once told me: you're screwed on ice no matter what and will spin all the tires.

Hmm... maybe , but that is what steel spike installed on the tires are for...

As for tire recommendations most "ALL" tire manufactures want you to buy their tires. The top brand tires are so close when comparing them on the same platforms there is so far from a distinctly obvious winner.
And when the test is conducted fairly they are done same with at least 6 defect drivers have skills from normal Dailey driver to an advanced experienced road racer.

From about 2000 to present it is mainly about the performance specification given by the auto manufactures and their tire they used during those safety and road tests. Realistically it is somewhat difficult to improve them no matter what DIY or even tire shops recommend if they and people are honest with how to choose a tire. And it also boils down to what the skills of the driver are. Just because you can drive NEVER means you're really know how to drive a vehcle in all situations that may arise.

And if you have to drive on ICE their are simple ways that you can with out fearing or getting into trouble learn how to drive on it . But it does take training generally in a vacant parking lot that has a fire hydrant that you can tap into cover the asphalt test area the night before when you have freezing temperatures and then the next day go practice.

Not really...
I used to ice race on the local lakes back when Saabs generally won every race and studded tires work wonders on it.

Well studded tires I would expect differently. But in terms of just regular economy tires with only rubber, ice is your worst enemy no matter what. The snow does help winter tires pack in snow to get grip, but personally I've never had to run them.

I used to run 4 studded snow tires on my 1969 Opel Rallye when I was stationed in Germany and they worked quite well on ice. A bit noisy and speed limiting on the autobahn though. I think the top speed rating for them was around 70 mph, making me one of the slower cars during the winter.
