Changing Battery
#21
Found a useful YOUTUBE video on how to reset the iStop [STOP/ START] feature when you change the battery ; personally I don't miss it, as
on my CX5 hasn't worked for a time, which is down to battery voltage being somewhat low (12.06v). Procedure
also requires some resetting steering wheel settings.

If anyone is concern about losing any electrical set devices during a battery change there are power supply equipment that plug into the OBDII Dianostic connector that will maintain 12 volts during changing the battery. You can get them for less than 20 bucks most anywhere that sells auto parts of naturally from amazon, eBay and Walmart.
Sorry I can't find mine to show you. Seems someone borrowed it from my tool box and forgot to return it.

Hello. Thank you everyone for the insights. It was very cold here and I did not want to wait for a memory saving adapter and just went for it and swapped my battery for a new one. My old battery had not failed, but it was due and the next several days are going to be subzero. So, here’s a datapoint. The swap took less that 5 minutes and nothing seems to have been lost. My “favorites” including radio stations remained. Maintenance service alerts remained. My fan/heater/defroster had to be re-selected. One weird thing occurred. The temperature gauge display in the right side display started moving from cold to hot, off the scale and rolled around again. It stopped doing this, so …. I think I am good.

Nothing needs to be done other than making sure you get a quality name brand battery and preferably one that uses 100% new components. I would also look at the production date of the battery and not the retail date sticker and try to get a battery that has as new a production date as possible. Have the place you buy the battery physically in front of you LOAD TEST the battery before you buy it. Do not take the comment "we load test all the batteries" as are reliable comment on the present condition of the battery of interest.
If you get it installed, I suggest that you watch the install and make sure they do not over tighten the battery terminals. Drive around the block or 2 and confirm that you get NO DTC from the install or return to the store and have them see what the DTC was.
The ECU learning or adaptive happens constantly as you drive each drive cycle so not to be concern with that.

The mechanic recommended I could try charging it up overnight using something like the CTEK to see if it could give it enough of a charge but it's an old horse & will probably need a swap. For the health of the Car Battery Change in Abu Dhabi, I'm looking to replace the battery and want to know the best way to go about this.
The BMW specialist I take my car to has quoted me £200+ VAT (not including labour) for the whole thing.
£150 quotes by Halfords including fitting & warranty.
My question is - is this the going rate for a battery replacement (never had to replace one before) & what's the deal with coding batteries that I've read on a few threads. I want to change it over as safely as possible but as economically too - more leftover money for upgrades (and the paintwork repair - If you've read my other thread)
Also, with the whole battery changing jazz - would the fact that the ECU is flashed to MHD stage 1 affect anything at all?
