CX-5 Signature, Diesel Engine?

CX-5 Signature, Diesel Engine?
Thoughts on the CX-5 Signature trim with DIESEL engine? We are in the market for a CPO or new CX-5 Signature in the beautiful Soul Red, and have the opportunity to purchase a diesel 2019 model. Is there anything we should know about it? There doesn't seem to be much else available in my area right now!

The US spec Diesel is way under powered compared to Japanese & Australia spec. All to do with Emission requirements ( probably California )
Australian spec 140kw ( 187hp) 450Nm torque
USA spec 125kw ( 168hp) 290nm torque
Not a huge drop in horsepower, but a massive reduction in torque.
To be honest, there really is no real benefit over the 2,5 NA or 2.5 turbo spec petrol models.
Also I've heard they are going to discontinue it in the USA. This could impact on parts availability & resale value down the line.

Your assessment of the pitfalls of the USA diesel CX-5 are spot-on. And I'll add that the advantage of cheaper diesel in other markets is actually just the opposite here.
As with the OP themselves, I suppose there's a buyer for everything, but with such a limited audience one has to imagine the resale value for diesel is likely to suffer badly compared to the highly desirable 2.5T petrol engine in the Signature.
I've only followed the diesel saga at arms-length, having little interest myself. But, with Mazda basically staying mum on the subject for 2020, other than dragging-their-heels on dates awhile back, it appears to be on a back-burner as they focus to other emerging technologies such as Skyactiv-X and hybrids. And most particularly on related development of the new CX-5 platform now pushed back to 2023 according to Mazda CEO, Akira Marumoto.

It's anybody's guess what they'll do for 2021 & 2022, and whether we'll see the newer drivetrain changes/options before the next platform launch. But I wouldn't bet on diesel figuring into the US line-up.
