I actually learned to drive in my uncle Everett's 1946 red ****** Jeep (he was a mechanic at the local Pontiac garage then became service manager at the GMC/Cadillac garage).
It was basically just an off-road hunting vehicle at that point, but we had miles of roads and trails around my grandparent's farm and being open and not having to worry about damage it was fun to drive.
He was a marine in WWII and survived Iwo Jima and other pacific island battles, and he loved Jeeps.
I had another uncle who was B-17 navigator who got through all his missions and came home and one uncle who landed on Omaha beach and made it back.
My father was too young but then came Korea and he survived as well.

My father was a truck driver (Teamster) all his life and I was able to go with him in those days before all the regulations.
Went on many a trip on the old Bluenose ferry from Maine to Nova Scotia and back often setting in his lap when he was driving.
I drove trucks so much back in my early years I could've got my class "A" CDL license when it became a requirement in 1986 without testing.
But watching the physical toll it took on my father (loading unloading) but I declined.
I became a shipping manager instead thinking I'd never have to load trucks again...
