Question CX5 2018 Smart brake support malfunction and indictors flash rapidly

I've had no issues with my CX5 since I brought it 2 years ago but tonight I went out and got the SBS error come up with I selected reverse, and then noticed my indicators flash rapidly as well.

Anyone else had this issue?

No errors on the screen or dashboard and car behaves normally when driving, SBS error seems to be only when reverse is selected, Indicators are flashing fast both left and right but flash normal speed if hazard light switch is on so no blown bulbs

Out of curiosity, how old is your battery on your car?

A weak battery certainly can cause a myriad of electronic issues, but age alone is not always a good indicator of battery health. Many/most modern cars have lots of computers, most very sensitive to battery voltage. New batteries may only last a couple of years - or less - depending on use, ambient weather, etc. The only way to know for certain is to have the battery load tested, which can be performed by many auto parts stores like AutoZone for free.

My 2020 battery lasted just one year.
I had the dealer replace it with a "real battery".

Agree on having the battery checked. Especially if it is the original. 5yrs is a long time for todays cars.

I would not count on your issue being the battery. Although most of the posts are a good idea to check the batteries health.

Below is why:

My recommendation is to take it to MAZDA ASAP because of the system it monitors.
In CA if you were to go into a service shop with it they would need you to sign a release of liability waver should you decide to take your vehicle before it was resolved.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum.

And thanks for the replies, I'll get the battery checked out today hopefully if I can find somewhere open with a load tester and report findings. I can't help but think the fast flashing and the SBS system errors are linked somehow other than the battery though. As for safety concerns - the flashing is all the time whenever i use indicators, the sbs error only appears when reverse is selected so driving in general shouldn't be an issue.

Problem still not found, load tested the battery and it tested okay, scanned car with scanner and no issues found but issue still exists. If I disable the SBS via the CMU the error does not appear when i put the car in reverse but the indicators still fast flash when used. It resets the SBS to on every time car is restarted, normal stff.

Since it only happens on reverse, Perhaps it's a malfunctioning rear sensor or maybe the rear sensor has become covered with debris, dirt, mud???

Maybe try cleaning the rear cameras and sensors, then if still error, take it to mazda dealer .
