These engines are subject to a upcoming recall, the current owner may or may not of received yet a letter from Mazda. The head gasket issue should of been fixed on the new engine, the oil & fuel issues should be fixed in the upcoming recall.
Diesel engines are no good as general round town runners. Only buy it if you regularly driving at speed for long periods.

After all my hassles with my 2012 model I was convinced by Mazda that these issues had been resolved. I bought a 2019 version, and it is a very different beast. Of course I might still get nervous as the mileage climbs. It was just over 100,000kms things went sour.

I love the car and hope that's the case! Thanks for your reply. I only have 5500 miles on mine at this time.

Hi, bought a 2019 year model diesel cx5 in the United States. Reading through this thread it appears the issues so far are showing up in 2015 year models. Do you know if the 2019 model engine is identical and may have these same issues or do you believe they have figured it out? TIA!
Engine was redesigned and supposedly fixed for the release of the KF Diesel model in 2017.

Hi all,
I've been experiencing the issues re: vacuum pump in my 2012 CX-5 also and Mazda have said it needs replacing. However Mazda NZ won't put it through the recall due to mine being an import from Japan and advised I need to pay for my vacuum pump repair.
Does anyone know if the Consumer Guarantees Act means I can write to the car dealer I purchased from (they imported it in 2017) and request due to it being a known safety hazard that they need to repair it?
Secondly, if I pay for the vacuum pump repairs what is the likelihood that it's already caused further damage to other parts and now just a ticking time bomb?
Thanks

Hi Rebekah,
I hope you find someone who can give you clarification. It does seem unreasonable however, that they try to get out of it. One can see why they want to get out of it of course, and I would think the CGA would probably support them. But finding somebody to take responsibility will be hard. The parent company ultimately should, one would think, but they leave this kind of thing to the individual countries, and you will need some specialised help to get far with it. I would suggest that damage to the brand is their greatest fear here, exposure of the problem and the need to have the recall is something they don't want I would suspect. Sorry I haven't anything too positive to say, it's outside my sphere, but as someone who did manage to get a result just before the recall happened, I know how important this forum is, and how each response helps. There are others who read this regularly who are better placed to advise on the further damage but, depending on the problem you are having, there is a good chance that some further damage has been done. I had a head gasket problem not too long after the oil filter problem was fixed. My local dealers were reluctant to fix that because they said the cam shaft was buggered. They offered me a very low trade in as a result also, so I had to go to another dealer. See what others say about the damage.

Hi Guys ... wondering how many of you have had issues or engine replacements with your CX5 2.2 diesel.
I recently had an issue with mine and when I took it to the dealer they said it was probably a blown motor coz they've had a few... hmmmm mine is an 2015 make... wondering if they were referring to the older models.
As it was it was a minor issue that they corrected... but now I'm worried about the long term viabilty of my much loved CX5 after the warantee runs out in 6 months.
Any comments welcome !
PS. car has 60000km on it and had an easy life with lots of country driving.

I had my CX5 2.2l diesel engine replaced late last year by Mazda - major problems with lubrication.
Now I have a second problem with its stopped dead again. Currently working with Mazda on the repair for that - 2 weeks off the road already.
It seems Mazda have major design problems with the 2.2l Diesel

Have there been reports of 2016.5 and up (updated KE and KF) models overheating and blowing head gaskets? So far all I've seen are the 2012 to 15 ones, none yet so far from 2016.
I'm still unsure whether to keep my 2016.5 or trade it in for something more reliable.
