Electric parking brake fault

Electric parking brake fault
Im looking for help/advice.
Recently did rear pads on a cx-5 with an EPB, being an idiot I took the calipers off and pads before doing the wind back operation to push the piston back. Forgetting to brace the caliper the piston decided to wind out instead of going in. This caused the piston to come out and chaos ensued.
I stripped the motor off and caliper apart and manually wound it back and pushed the piston in, fitted the motor and built it back up with new pads. After bleeding the caliper up the pedal is fine but after 1 cycle of using the epb ( on>off then off>on again) it throws a fault up and stops working. If you turn the ignition off after a few mins it works again until cycled and faults again.
Will this require new calipers or can I disconnect and wind back the motor (I wondered if its rotated too far and throwing a hissy) and try that? I want to avoid spending hundreds on new calipercaand motors if possible.
Thank you in advance for the help

It was putting the vehicle into maintenance mode that caused the caliper to wind itself out. Im 100% sure I had the parking brake button pushed the correct way during the procedure. I looked on various forums/websites and videos to make sure I was doing it correctly.
There was a motor fault but I didn't get a picture of it

I'm new here (bought a 2019 CX-5 Wednesday 20 October 2021):
What is "Maintenance Mode"?
I need to get up to speed on these things.
I've read of Mercedes brakes extending/closing when the calipers were removed.
