How many miles for first oil change?
Im used to ever 3000 miles in my old Escape. Im assuming my 2016.5 CX-5 should go longer than that, as Im assuming it uses fully synthetic oil. I got it new in feb of 2017, its only got about 3500 miles on it now. Does anyone know the mileage I need to change the oil? I think I saw somewhere 7,500 miles but I want to be sure as Im taking a couple of road trips this summer.

Check your Owner's Manual; my wife's 2.5 liter 2016 Mazda3 says 10,000 miles or until the service indicator comes up. Since the service indicator never came up I changed the oil at 10,500 miles.

I've always changed my oil for the first time much sooner than recommended. I've heard that metal dust etc created during manufacturing can create a lot of wear and tear which can be prevented by an oil change early on... then following the recommended schedule.

Metal, dust, and other detritus from the manufacturing process are long since a thing of the past. The flip side is the fact many (most?) manufacturers use special assembly lubes and pastes which blend with the initial oil fill to aid in engine break in. Most manufacturers actively recommend against changing the factory fill of oil early.

Depending on driving habits the owner's manual says 6k-7.5k. Monitor the condition of the oil and change accordingly.
I just replaced my air & cabin filters at 20k. They were kind of dirty and only $16 for the pair on ebay.
