Infotainment system

You can go to Settings. Then to Display. And then Turn Off Display.
Explained also in this video:
You can also mute the radio and it will be in mute mode even if you restart the car.

This is the case with many newer vehicles which control significant functions of the vehicle through the infotainment system. Volume control or mute are the only options in them. Volume control is usually better as the mute will probably be cancelled when the vehicle is restarted.

I agree with the concern about not being able to turn off the radio. Mute is not the same. When I am listing to an audio book, hit traffic and need to focus, I would like to be able to stop the audio. The only way is to go into the menu and pause the book which is more than I want to do at the time. It would be great if the Mute actually turned off the system, and therefore, pausing the audio.
The two options mentioned in this thread are valid but do not accomplish the desired result. You can turn off the display and mute the audio neither accomplish the desired result of turning off the radio.
I wonder if there is advanced programming that can reprogram the mute button. Is anyone doing advanced programming to their infotainment system?

The biggest problem I have with the radio/entertainment system is the dreadful amount of time it takes to load, after you start the car.
Th cx5 is a great vehicle. the entertainment system is the only flaw, imo.
Mazda really needs to address this.
