Just bought a new CX-5. I'm noticing that I'm having terrible fuel economy after my first refuel of gas. (~19 MPG). Is this normal during the break-in period?
Also, is the max miles per full tank around 265 Miles?

I have 36,000 miles on my 2016. My average mileage since I got it is 27.8. I wonder if your tank was really full when you first got it? That could make it seem like the mileage is bad. Wait for two or three fill ups, if the average is still really low, then it will be time to see the dealer.

I average 26.8 with 66k miles. Flat Florida, but plenty of parked with a/c running.

You are still in the break-in period and that will have some effect. @ 19mpg in mainly city stop and go is not unusual though if it's the AWD with the 2.5. Highway mileage should be 25 to 29 once it's broken in. Also, you might want to check your driving style. Remember, this thing is a brick trying to push air out of the way, so you're not going to get the same mileage as you would in an aerodynamically designed car with the same engine and driveline.

A lot depends on how you drive these cars. I can get 32 with ours but thats going 55 to 60 and its broke in. At first we didn't see 29. Going on a trip we will get around 24 to 25 with speeds ranging from 70 to 80mph. I will say this. The MPG is good but you have to drive with some sense and be aware of how your driving. Its not like our fusion. We can drive that 80 and still get 28mpg.

Yes, you're pushing a brick through the air, so extra speed takes a hit on mileage.

2016 CX-5 with approx. 15000 miles averages 23+ in pure stop and go city driving and 33+ in interstate 70 mph speeds. Suggest you are in the break in period where all engine parts are tight. Check MPG again after several fill ups and I think you will find it much improved.

Mine is AWD. I also noticed if I push hard in the city, I drop mileage quickly. I average 22 mpg in mixed driving. On the rural hwy I almost always get 28-30 going 60-65. I have not been on a Interstate yet. I cannot imagine going less than 70 MPH with as smooth and quiet as these vehicles are!

Default Awd

If you are not aware, awd vehicles always get lower
(2 - 3 mpg) l than their 2wd counterpart. I think the best you will be able to do is around 20-21 city, 30-31 highway. Give it some time to loosen up. And when you "punch it" too often your mileage will go down the tubes. Good luck.

I have the 2018 w/AWD and get 25 mpg with aggressive city driving.
