LOL it ok I am worn out on this subbject anyway.
For you and I at least this is a A no-win situation!
So I am popping the cork on a great bottle of Pinot Noir with no "magnets"... and a extra glass waiting for you !

Are mag drain plugs a waste of money? Maybe. It's my money to waste though isn't it?
Just tossing this out there. My 2003 Chevy Silverado Duramax/Allison came from the factory with a doughnut magnet that fits inside of the transmission filter (yes, the Allison transmission has a spin on trans oil filter). Allison thought it a good idea to include a magnet in the filter, that's good enough for me.

How small does a piece of metal have to be before it's not harmful to the engine? IMO, any size is potentially harmful, and that's a good enough reason to invest a few bucks on a magnetic oil pan drain plug. I've heard so much b.s. from people that think they know it all, I find it's worth it to trust my own opinion most of the time. Also, since the magnetic plug does no harm, there shouldn't be any complaints about me using one.

These magnets need to be cleaned once you have access to them. When changing the oils or when the filter is removed. Simply wipe them off and reuse.
