I would have preferred no moonroof and a lower priced car or the money used towards Nappa Leather or a better BOSE system....

 

I'm with you.
I asked the sales rep when I purchased my CX-5. He said only the the base model didn't have a moonroof.
Other than a few uses for amusement, I haven't used mine.
A lower price without might sell more vehicles as well. You listening Mazda?

Like most vehicle manufacture sending out surveys, moon and sunroofs are still a high desired item with the majority of buyers.
On most resale value charts it is also a good item to have when selling or trading in your vehicle.

However, to be honest I rarely use mine. I do open it about once a month to clean and treat the seal. lol

 

Not really.

Like the increased light, sometimes. Like the open-air feel, sometimes. But it's an SUV. Have had coupes, and they're fine too. Plus, there's the unavoidable reality that a sunroof equals a hole in the roof and the risk of water intruding through that hole. All things considered, I'd prefer no such thing. If I want air, I'll crack a window. If I want more light, I'll wait ... or take the convertible out for a spin.

Would easily trade a sunroof for, say, tougher paint. Any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

 

Mazda shuffles the features in each level from year to year. I am happy not having a moonroof iny 19 Mazda3 Preferred. The next year they added the Moonroof and took out the Bose sound system in the preferred.

I have never used a Moonroof in any car I have owner. My wife has a panoramic roof in her car and has never opened the shade.

 

I like the sunroof and we use it all the time when the weather is permitting. It's noisy though but worth it.

 

Have you considered a low-profile wind deflector?
What I did when I had the headliner out is to completely apply FAT MAT to the roof area, tinted the glass 2% and also reupholstered the sunroof slide door. The air noise when it is open is not as bad, but I am sure a Wind deflector would lower the noise even more? I just don't like the way they look.

 

I'm with you on the looks, those wind deflectors are very ugly! I'll suffer the noise over the looks and just turn the music up a bit.

I traded my Subaru for a Mazda during the shortage and the only CX-5 with a sunroof were the GTs and out of my price range (I bought the touring model). I miss it. Even if I didn't open the glass, I enjoyed opening the shade in winter. Driving with it open in the fall or at night in summer is something I wish I could still do. It was fun!
