!
Does anyone remember the days that the aftermarket was flooded with universal moon and sunroofs?
For me I use to think why in the world would anyone want to add weight to a car?? (Original street racer shed the excess... LOL)
So these days I add about 200plus pounds of stereo equipment to my MAZDA and compensate with a full bottle of Nitrous.

The only car I own without a sunroof is the MX5 and it doesn't need one. That being said, I hardly ever use them and, given a choice, I would not have them.

Ya I feel the same way. On my 09 MCS (Mini Cooper S Turbocharged model) I made a slip in the securely stays in place installs in seconds and keep the heat out and reduces the noise level as well. I may do that as well with the MAZDA. I seldom open the sunroof and more for cleaning and treating the seal then for any other reason.

I can live without the sun/moon roof. In fact, my other car does not have it and I do not care at all.

Gotta keep those drains clean or the floor can get quite wet.

Good point for some that actually use their sunroofs but from reading most don't use their sunroof and the drains can't get dirty, contaminated or plugged unless you are frequent flyer user of the sunroof!

I question that as my wife never uses the sunroof on the CX5 and her drains clogged up last year causing the driver's side of the vehicle to have significant water, both front and rear. We filled a large shop vac about 25% before pulling the carpeting and drying everything out after finding the drains were clogged on the one side in the front. Even on the few occasions that we did open the thing, we never let it sit with the roof opened. The same problem hit us a number of years ago on a 1983 Honda Accord Special Edition.

The problem never arose on our 1986 4Runner, our 2001 Outback VDC or the 2014 Grand Cherokee.

Most definitely it can happen without opening the roof. I had a 2007 Audi Q7 with S/R drain issues. Audi did a $15K+ warranty claim to fix it. Trashed the headliner at the rear end.

LOL there is always those that seem to be the exception to the common conditions and rules. MOST and I say MOST(because although I have not seen every fricken factory sunroof ever manufactured ) drain ports for sunroofs are inside the sunroof area sealed completely safe and out of protentional clogging when the glass is closed properly, and those drain ports are only exposed when the sunroof is open. The line or hose runs in such a way that exits the body and is also not exposed. Unless you submerge your vehicle in water.

Ya so that main drain ports (there are 2 looking at the service manual) was exactly where I said they were (accessing them first requires the opening of the sunroof) on your old Audi. Maybe next time you will learn a little from reading some things I post instead of trying to find fault all the time? LOL
If you use your sunroof even occasionally then you should do a service cleaning periodically and most assuredly before change of seasons. If you don't open your sunroof then you are highly unlikely to clog the drain ports and hoses!
IN some vehicle's the drain hose can become detached in the headliner area, this has happened to several vehicles over a few decades mostly caused by improper cleaning servicing.
