Lets not get excited from those few pictures yet!
Hmm .....well it a carbon build up, but I am not sure how you gaged "a lot" from "a little" (maybe I did not read on any thread that you have had more experience checking engines for carbon issues) (internet wisdom based on DIY and even some shops videos about DI engines and carbon are more comical then factual as to how it formed and what is too much) when in concerns a DI (direct injected engine). First the photos are not high definition and are not covering all the areas that could potentially have a carbon build up. It has not yet been fully determined the cause. That is a big deal, and the responses so far don't necessarily point to any verified information that would have that amount of carbon in the injector. The compression testing was admittedly not done the best way and the numbers while lift an eyebrow really needs to be re-teats the proper way and then the results compared. We also have not seen the intake manifold which is where most DI engine get oil that cause uncontrolled carbon formation. The OP has not indicated that the interior walls of the intake were oil wet and, this is important no indication of any DTC historical or temporally of a sensor being contaminated from oil in the intake?

Every square inch of the intake manifold is covered with shiny oil. Near the intake runners into the head, the plastic intake manifold is covered with both oil and almost sandy feeling oily junk. The map sensor was covered with oil.
So what is the hot setup for a catch can? Seems fairly necessary on GDI engines.

When I put the injectors back in, what should I lube them with? Would Krytox be ok Callisto? Since you are into scuba, i am sure you have used Krytox before.
Anything else i should do or know about before I put the car back together?
