Who builds Mazda's automatic transmissions? I thought at one time it was Aisin. In particular, I am wondering about what's in the 2019 CX-5. I know it is not a CVT trans, but I'd like to know more. I actually asked a dealer's shop and they could not answer.

As far as I know, all Mazda SkyActiv transmissions are built by Mazda as their transmissions are unique.

Shipo is correct. Mazda builds their own transmissions.

Thank you. I think I'd been confused on that earlier. So what is their reputation for durability? Longevity? My best experiences with auto trans over the past 30 years has been with Volvo's AW70, (Aisin-Warner) and Jeep Cherokee late 1990's AW4's All have been surprisingly durable. (Still run them both) We DID just buy our first Mazda last Friday, a 2019 CX-5 non-turbo. (Drove the turbo - cool, but content with the NA engine) So now we'll see how all this turns out.

So far at least, the Skyactiv transmissions, which made their debut in something like 2012, have earned a pretty good reputation for reliability.

Can't say the same for my 2008 Mazda 3 auto trans. Built by ford, has issues shifting from 3rd to 2nd since I bought it at 60k miles. At least it hasn't gotten any worse.
