Will there be a new CX5 this year?
I started reading a car magazine this morning at while I was waiting for a doctor's appointment and it was talking about upcoming new Mazdas. They said don't expect anything new this year(!) but next year there will be a 2023 CX5 with rear wheel drive along with a new 6. They called me before I could finish the article so I am a little unclear on everything.
Does this mean there won't be a CX5 update this year? I was kinda thinking about holding off on a 2021 and seeing if the 2022 might have wireless charging and wireless car play but if they're not going to have a new model later this year maybe I should just go ahead and get what's available. Decisions, decisions!

Oops I probably should have worded that a little different. I've driven the 2021 and was hoping maybe they'd add some things to the *next* release, but according to that article I read it sounded like nothing new from Mazda until the 2023 models.

That's what had me confused! Since the 2021's are already being sold (I have the 2021 CX-5) I thought you were referring to perhaps some type of "mid-year) upgrade.

Car companies are so weird with their years sometimes. Hyundai's 2022 model year Tucsons are supposed to be out this spring and a salesman I talked to kept calling it the upcoming model for 2021 lol

Huh so I ran across this earlier.
Lame duck but still soaring: 2022 Mazda CX-5 2022 Mazda CX-5: changes, release date, more

Interestingly in the article you linked there was this paragraph about the next generation CX-5:
Major mechanical changes won’t come before the expected model-year-2023 launch of the second-generation CX-5. Even then, as Mazda takes the next-gen CX-9 and Mazda 6 midsize sedan upmarket with rear-drive-based engineering and inline-six-cylinder engines, the CX-5 will hew to compact-crossover tradition: a front-wheel-drive-based platform and transverse-mounted four-cylinder engines.
I assume this is just a guess, but IMHO it makes sense. Why move the CX-5 out of a segment you have done so well in for many years? Going to a RWD platform with an I-6 would push the CX-5 way out of the current market slot.
