OMG fixit. That Ebay post just proved what we have been saying. The item for sale is the fuel pump. The strainer is part of the pump. The only fuel filter I change is the one on my F450 and that's only because it's a diesel. My Mazda's, all 4 of them, will never have a fuel filter changed.

Some thug pours sugar in your tank, now what are you to do about that?

Don't you have a gas cap that can only be unlocked from inside your car ?

I would not worry about changing the fuel filter.

Gas quality is quite good now compared to 20 years ago.

Gas stations have their own filters.

That reminds me of a funny story.

In the 80's I was in an accident.

The insurance company picked up my car and took it to a body shop.

I had a locking gas cap and they lost the key.

My car ran out of gas on the way home.

I had to use my tire iron to break the gas cap off so I could get some gas. :-)

 

I suppose in hindsight, that has humor. I'm sure at the time you were as frustrated as a one legged grasshopper trying to kick a hole thru a watermelon.

The point of the sugar is this, sugar does NOT dissolve in gasoline. You add a little more fuel to wash out the filler neck, remove the fuel pump and suck out the grains of sugar from the tank, done. But I'm willing to bet, there are shops out there that if you called and told them some one put sugar in your tank, they would quote you tank wash out, fuel rail cleaning, new injectors, pumps and additives. And some consumers will pay for the service. It's all what your mind perceives to be acceptable.

I'm sure Harley has a replacement guideline for the fuel filter on my bike and I suppose after 40,000 I should check it. The only reason for that, and I'm using made up numbers, the injectors are capable of passing 10 microns worth of crap. The fuel filter company developed a filter that filters out to 2 microns. yup, sooner or later, it's going to slow down the flow.

 

Sugar does not dissolve easily in gasoline.

But if someone boiled some water with a lot of sugar, it would seriously affect your engine.

But you did not answer if you had a locking gas cap.

 

Nope, no locker. I would be the grasshopper because I wouldn't have enough spares for the way I lose, I mean, temporarily misplace things.

 

2016 Mazda 6 2.5 Petrol sold in New Zealand & Australia still has a fuel Filter, specified for replacement at 150,000kms.

Can't see why my market, plus the UK, & Europe have replaceable fuel filters but North America doesn't.

 

I'm guessing fuel quality.

 

My fuel pump can be accessed thru port under rear seat.
