Default Safe to buy CX-7

Well I am picking up 2007 CX-7 tomoro morning for test driving for the day/night and was wondering if ya think the bugs are worked out. Gas cap, turbo lag, etc...... I just have to have this car!! I have been loyal to Honda for years, but its time for a change. Any suggestions for questions to ask. I am getting the Grand Touring fully loaded! Thanks! Kim

My wife and I just picked up our Grand Touring CX-7 last night. There is some noticable tubo lag, but not too bad, in my opinion. It's an obvious place to upgrade eventually. This thing handles very well, and beware...you'll be going 100 mi/hr and not even know it!

It is not turbo lag...

That delay is caused by the fly by wire throttle these cars have. The computer is not allowing full power until after a number of criteria are met.

The reflash of the ECU is free from Mazda and helps this though it does not go far enough for me. I am waiting for an aftermarket unit that allows full throttle when I want it, not what the computer will allow me.

The TCU reflash fixes the odd shifting of the transmission.

Insure you have the new gas cap to prevent CEL illumination when you fail to put the gas cap on right.

Insure yours has the newer outer door seals. It will keep the inner door clean when it rains and also reduces outside noise getting into the cabin.

Also turn off the TCS if you need to take of fast...

It will turn itself on again once a certain speed is reached.

I have been in love with this so-called hybrid since I first saw it. I currently drive the 6, but would love to upgrade to the CX7. How well do you like it? Would you recommend others to buy it?

Overall I am happy with my CX 7 and I do recommend it to others to buy.

I expected some teething being a first year car. The main issues I had have been fixed by Mazda.

Door seals updated design installed free fixed noise and dirty door jam problem
Gas Cap updated design installed free fixed CEL problem
Throttle Lag, TSB ECU reflash somewhat fixed the lack of power. The computer controls the actual throttle body throttle position and so it is still not giving full power in my opinion. But now it gives more sooner. Originally there was very little power until 2,500 rpm was reached and then you got a bunch of throttle bang... This is the one issue I am not completely satisfied with.
Transmission Shifting, Auto mode would up shift at 4,500 rpm vs. 6,000 rpm where it should. Then with the ECU reflash it started hunting between 5th and 6th when light throttle was applied at 65mph ish... The TCU reflash solved both of these issues
Gas Mileage is about 3 mpg less than expected when babying it on the freeway. 21-22 mpg max so far not the 24 mpg promised. Not sure what can be done. I have heard a CAI and larger intercooller will help boost this along with power.

I really love the way this car steers, the handling, the brakes. I also like the wide roofline as I am tall and I cannot stand cars where the roof edge is right up against the side of my head (Like the Lexus's does)

I am simply in love with the one that my Wife and I just purchased on Tuesday!! It handles fantastic and it has plenty of power. All in all I would give it a 8 out of 10.
