Second hand 2008 Mazda CX-7 Turbo 2.3
Hi everyone. Great forum you have. Congrats.
This is my first time writing here, so I would like to ask a question. I live in Dominican Republic and I am thinking about buying a second hand car. I don't necessary need a SUV or a big car, but I like them and I think it can be useful.
So the question for the 2008 Mazda CX-7 Turbo is: Have you had many problems with the turbo? I have been reading a lot about this problem and it seems very common. Would you recommend me to buy? The car looks so good, the interior is in good conditions and I think also the motor. Of course I am gonna go to the mechanic, but first I wanted to ask you this question.
Thanks for your help!
Greetings

The CX-7 had a few problems that always pointed back to low or lack of proper care and maintenance. 3000 mile oil changes and a cool down period after driving extends the life of both the turbo and engine. The turbo is lubricated by the engine oil and run off the exhaust. You can imagine how hot the oil and gets. Shutting off the motor right after a drive cooks the oil already in the turbo. Idling for two minutes allows the turbo and oil to cool reducing oil breakdown concerns.
Start the motor cold, there should not be a notable "rattle" noise for the first few seconds. If so, the VVT and timing chain may need to be replaced. A properly maintained motor will run quiet.
