2008 CX9 Engine Failure Need Help
I have a 2008 CX-9 with about 120,000 and it started making a rattling sound and when accelarating we where coming home from the mountains. It sounded like something was loose. We made it home and the next day we took it to the dealership by the time we just as we pulled up it was obvious that something was really wrong. The techs took a look at it and said it was minutes from going out totaly. They said it sounds like the bearing broke in the bottom end of the engine. They will pull the oil pan and take a closer look but they are saying I will need a new engine and it will cost $8,700.
10K miles ago the transmission went out and 4k later it was replaced. Is there a cheaper and reliable option for the engine replacement. My car is paid for and my wife loves her car. Not sure what to do any suggestions. Is this a common issue with this motor? The 8th digit on the vin# is A.

It sucks any sugestions on where I can purchase a motor? None of the egine rebuilders I have found so far will touch a mazda engine or rebuild them. None of the crate companies offer engines for this car either.

I'm with grim, failure of a CX-9 motor is very unusual. Do you have a NAPA store near you? Try them for a reman. Can also try Jasper Engines. You have to jump though a few web site hoops but they will contact you. Never had to hunt one down so I'm of small help here. With the 9's reputation, I wouldn't be afraid of a bone yard motor either. Any indication of root cause for failure? just curious.
