2008 CX9 HID upgrade
Hi,
First post on site.
My wife has a 2008 Luxury CX9, while it is a great car to drive the headlights are very crappy.
I would like to upgrade to HID but have a couple of questions that I could not find the answer for.
Has anyone done this?
Do you need 2 complete HID kits? As hi beam is a 9005 globe and low beam is a H11 globe?
Has anybody had anything to do with the bi xenon globes which have both hi/lo beam in the same globe?
Was going to go to 55w 5000k globe upgrade as do a bit of country driving here in Australia. Any thoughts?
Anyway look forward to anyone wanting to give some advice.
Cheers.

Between the drive lights, high beams, and the fog lights it has three different pairs/sets.
You have to change out all three sets so they match, but you could start with the drive lights then the high, and so forth.
I had a different vehicle that used 9006, and 9005. I used the Sylvania Silverstar when they were introduced. I didn't have very good results with them lasting.

Bi-Xenon's are good if you can do it, but only in a projector housing.
I am not so familiar with CX-9's and certainly not in Australia, but if like other Mazda's I am familiar with, the hi beams are in a reflector housing and not a projector, don't do it. Though not perfect, you can convert a projector housing designed for halogens to HID, a reflector style housing is a nightmare, especially for on-coming traffic. You would need to convert the housing itself to a projector, and they are available to do that, if you're willing to take on the work and possible damage. It's tricky from what I understand, but it can be done.

K I will try to help you. It is not advisable to convert high beam to hid, coz cx9 high beam is reflector type not projector. But, you car convert low beam projector to hid. But while choosing hid you must be very careful, cheap systems will entirely destroy the the set up.
I can suggest you of couple of set ups.
H11: Morimoto Elite HID System - HID Systems from The Retrofit Source Inc
While selecting the bulb pay additional 20$ for xb53, worth it. Our bulb is H11.
Remember relay is a must for installing.
If you are tight on budget you can choose hylux slim ballast from an australian company, I am not sure about the bulb quality. Hylux ballasts are in fact philips ballast. Hylux company manufactures ballast for philips.
Website address is HID Xenon Conversion Kit - Slim 35w,55w,70w,and 100w Ballasts - H1,H3,H4,H7,H9,H11,HB3,HB4 Bulbs - 6000k, 8000k, 4300k, and much more.
Buy the pro grade kit, slim fast start, but you have to buy the relay separately.
Hope it helps you. Let me know if you have any queries.
Cheers, from perth

55 watt may be too much for converting a stock set-up, just changing bulbs with ballasts. 35 watt might work.
I changed my low beams from stock to 35 watt HiD bulbs with ballasts and just re-aimed headlights a bit. Left hi beams alone.
Later i changed the headlight assemblies for other reasons (scratchy outer lens).
