Default 2016 CX-9 Lift Gate Sag

I just bought a 2016 CX-9 and after coming home I noticed that the liftgate won't stay up all the way. It will open to the full height, but then a second after opening it will sag down about 9 inches. I am aware that you can set the opening height for the liftgate and I already tried resetting it, but it still doesn't work. I can't find any other reference to this issue on the forum or on Google. The car has 23k miles on it so I find it odd that the struts would already bad, but could this be all it is?

It can happen, and that is what it sounds like.
