Just bought a 2018 CX-9 Touring with the Touring Premium Pkg which shows Mazda Navigation System. It has a SD card in the slot to use Navigation but when I press the Navigation start button it says my Mazda was not built with navigation. What am I doing wrong? Please advise.

If you pull out the SD card, what part number is on the sticker? It's possible the SD card that came with it is incorrect. For the 2018 model, your part number should read BHP1-66-EZ1N.

As far as I know, a new/unused SD card of the proper type or model is all you need. My CX-9 didn't come with a card when I bought it but popping in a new card worked. Same scenario with a CX-5 I had years ago.

A few possibilities:

1. SD card is corrupt.
2. It's not new, meaning it was taken from another vehicle. Navigation cards tie themselves to a vehicle when activated and therefore cannot be moved to another one.
3. Other technical issue with the head unit.

#1 can be fixed with a restore from backup (made during an update) but since the card appears to have never worked, it does not apply.

​​​​​​For numbers 2 and 3, it's probably best to visit the place of purchase and demonstrate the problem.
