Hello, my high-mount brake light repair ended up being a bad brake switch (SWITCH, STOP LAMP. Part # L232-66-490A). Did not have to change the actual light (LAMP, STOP - HI.MOUNT.. Part # TD11-51-580C) but did it because I made the wrong assumption at the beginning. I also changed the cable (CORD, LAMP - HI.MOUNT SEAT. Part # TD11-51-571B). 1 hr of labor

This is why it is very important to verify the part is at fault before changing it out on a guess. Often changing a part that is not the problem creates other issues complication or at least adding to more problems that the original problem.
It is also why TSB are not meant for general public use!

The problem with Monkey is very unlikely with the brake light switch ???? He posted testing the bulb and it worked. He also said the center brake light was not working.

Callisto - what exactly do you mean "TSBs are not meant for general public use"?As I mentioned earlier, my real issues was the brake light switch, not the actual 3rd brake light. This implies the 3rd brake light was not at fault but did not function properly as a result of the faulty brake light switch. I admitted I misdiagnosed the issue and changed a part that actually was not faulty (3rd brake light). I must be doing a really bad job explaining I suppose. Lastly, you suggest Monkey needs to start a new thread because he may have a different CX-9. Is not CX-9 the same generation from the time it debuted (2007) till the time I started this thread (2015)?

Pretty clear TSBs are not for general public! Read the MAZDA information and that info is at the bottom of every page of TSB's.

In the hands of none Mazda or professional Automotive technicians and trained mechanic DIYs seem to think it is a service information that is a cure all for something they think is related or is their problem .
What DIY should be doing is looking for Mazda Service Manual and follow the steps outlined for service ,diagnosing and repair instead of TSB.

Most who find TSB:
Don't have the skills to do the service.
In most case Don't follow the outlined procedure
Don't have the proper tools or equipment to do the service.
Don't look to find if there were any updates or superseded TSB's and if they did they most likely would not find them unless they had a contact at a a service department t Mazda.

While I am not a Factory Trained MAZDA Automotive Technician, I am a ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician, use ALL Data for many service needs which gives current service updates . Have access to TSB as qualified under thier authorized use requirements and at one time while working for a dealership wrote and updated many TSB's.

Its unfortunate now on many forums that often a owner will find a thread about a concern with a posted TSB and think they have the same problem. Often times going to dealership with TSB in hand. I wonder how many of you all take personal health concerns to your doctor with what you feel is your problem. No testing but you know because you found it on the internet it must be your ailment! LOL

Callisto - are you sure "TSBs are not for general public"? It makes me wonder why they are public then. And why are you bringing TSBs here to begin with? Is this a TSB issue?

I do not understand how you concluded above that another member has electrical problems rather an a unit problem (to me, both should be looked at together as a way to properly diagnose but if you claim that they are separate, then let it be) and they should start a new thread. If you could walk us through your logic, members will appreciate it.

Finally, isn't this forum a place to share knowledge and help each other solve issues encountered on our identical vehicles (CX-9) rather than putting members down what they can or can not do?

If all members were professional technicians like you, there would not be a need to ask for help at a forum like this one. That said, please help fellow members or just keep away from topics you are not familiar with.

TSB are not public Can you not read Mazda own information? Does anyone have in writing permission to use them anywhere ? NOPE! So I suggest if you do not understand the regulation and the laws in the USA and Canada pertaining to trademarks go do some research or contact a business laywer. ? In my own experience I have already had robbed several of my legally protected produce stolen and copied or reversed engineered. I also used the name MINI and received a cease and desist court issues paper to discontinue the use of that spelling exactly! I understood because I can read my flaw in not checking for TM use so, I am well up on what is illegal and not!

Now as for what I post in threads to help members.....
I did not conclude anything! As I am not physically there, I go by what an OP writes as the problems and what they did in an attempt to solve them. Based on that information and my years doing this work I give the best suggestion possible and correctly to find the exact problem. '
You and any other member can choose to utilize my advice, recommendation and help or not. But please do not suggest I concluded anything. I will say IMHO or IMHO or my best guess if it is just that otherwise there are specific procedures to follow and a good reason to do so in problem solving.

Callisto - I am sorry but I will have to correct you on who can use TSBs and what purpose they serve. Please, go to the NHTSA.gov website and you will find ALL TSB for ANY vehicle and model (including Mazda vehicles). You make it sound like you have exclusive access to TSBs because you are ASE certified and subscribed to ALLDATA. Sorry, but none of the 2 credentials are required to look up TSBs. But, this is not the point because TSB was never part of the discussion until you brought it in for no reason.

The point is that we are going back and forth and none of our exchanges is helping the fellow member who is seeking help with an issue. I personally find this kind of interaction not helpful for anyone.

LOL dude really you have a reading problem. Go read a MAZDA TSB on each page what the disclaimer for use is!
And to support this I think you are confusing safety recalls with TSB's ?? LOL
NHTSA | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
As for the NHTSA
I have personally talked with them many times and the TSB often comes up in the conversation.
NHTSA | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
so you personally
Then...

give a http from the NHTSA showing a TSB.
NHTSA | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
Then..
.
Please email them with your question and post it on this forum what they respond you with!
NHTSA | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

The reason I bring up that it is not the best way to solve a problem because they are designed for specifically the Dealership and NOT public as the y clear state using common understandable English language!!!!!!! ROLMAO
And most always members that are DIY or less tend to think they have the issues because they may be similar to what their problems are even if nothing was done to check the problem from a professional Auto Technician at a Mazda dealership.

IMHO you are one that should not be reading them nor working on your own Mazda .. LOL

Ok so a friend read my response and called me laughing at this thread, it appears I am partially mistaken. It seems there is now currently under the NHTSB under safety recalls if you enter your VIN they will show any safety recalls and manufacture TSB related specifically to your VIN.
This seem to have been taken place about 2 years ago involving a lawsuit. That may be changed in the future. It seems there is an appeal entered regarding it because of what considered updates and old information, i.e. Dated material. Also that the TSB are not always current and updated on any website. The website does not advertise this separately because of the misuse of them (like here and other forums) and the disclaimers are still in effect not to publicly post them without following the manufactures copy rights.

To find TSB relating you your VIN and should only be used for your own personal information go to the NHSTA and under safety recall enter your information and VIN.

.

chiman0101 I stand corrected!

I won't be posting not to post them anymore on any forum!
