Hey all,

Curious to know what the alternatives are for the factory rail system (0000-8L-N01). Looks like it's $315 on Amazon or if I want to wait for a better/used deal on Ebay :T Anything out there cheaper? Or anything better suggested regardless of price? I think I saw a couple Thule systems that are direct mount cross-bars. Looking to be able to haul a little more cargo for an upcoming Grand Canyon trip so looking into it. If not, we may have to resort to the Rav4 (which has rails/rack).

 

That $315 price is for the longitudinal rails. You'll also need crossbars from Mazda, Yakima, or Thule. Mazda's are another $146. Perhaps just crossbars and the mounting feet from Yakima or Thule would be the best.

 

Thanks, Yea I noticed that - I was looking at the direct mount Yakima/Thule racks which seems even 'easier' but don't you lose flexibility in moving the cross bars around? I guess it's not a big deal though since I don't envision having to move the crossbars around much. Any particular suggestions on direct mount/foot Yakima or Thule models? I think I stumbled across a couple but lots of complaints about noise from the racks.
