1994 Miata--ignition switch and airbag light problems
Hello to everyone. I am new to this message board and also a new Miata owner. I have a 1994 Miata with automatic transmission. Its two main problems are (1) the key will not release from the ignition switch and (2) the airbag indicator light on the instrument panel flashes 3 or 4 times and then stops.
Do you have any suggestions on the ignition switch problem--as to what needs to be done to repair this? When the battery is disconnected, the igntion switch works perfectly and releases the key. When the battery is reconnected, the ignition switch will not release the key.
The airbag indicator light flashes 3 or 4 times and then stops. What does that mean and what can be done to correct the problem?
Thanks! Condor

The key will not release or turn to lock because you have a problem with the key interlock circuit. It keeps the key from being removed unless the transmission selector is moved to the Park position. As for the air bag light. Count the number of flashes that occur when it does this. The light is outputing a 2 digit code. First series of flashes is the first digit and second series is second digit. Count the number of regualar flashes and then will pause briefly and then flash again. You can get the code number and source of failure from that.
